The Romsey Relay Marathon is a community event held in the spring of each year, on the Broadlands Estate. Originally inspired as part of the Olympic Legacy, the Relay Marathon is a unique event, open to the whole community, raising both funds and awareness for local charities and good causes of your choice.

Following the success of the last four Relay Marathons, The Rotary Club of Romsey will again be organising the event in aid of your charities. The Relay Marathon gives an opportunity for anyone to partake in a Relay Marathon, as part of a team who collectively will run the 26miles and 385yards. The 5th Relay Marathon will be held on Sunday 14th May 2017 and will again be hosted at the Broadlands Estate on the outskirts of Romsey.

If you can persuade your colleagues, family and friends to Get Involved and enter a team then do get in touch. Remember, if you can't get a team of 10, some can run more than 1 competitor stage (2 laps), so long as the whole team collectively completes the 20 laps.

The Relay Marathon is an event held by the community, for the community. Everyone can Get Involved somehow.

There are several ways in which you can do something. Encourage your colleagues, friends and family to Raise a team, encourage your company to place an advert in our programme and if you know of a charity in need of support, encourage them to look at our charities page. Finally if you are unable to participate in any other way, you could act as a marshal on race day, or send a donation. Everyone can Get Involved somehow.

Your team can consist of up to 10 members, who will take it in turn to run 2 laps of a 1.3mile course before passing the baton to the next team member. The oldest competitor to date has been aged over 80 and the youngest was 8 years old, so there is scope for everyone to get involved. The event caters for both able bodied runners and those with disabilities. The race begins at 10am and course marshals withdraw at 3pm, but so far every team has completed the race well within that period. There is an entry fee of £120 (with a £20 early bird discount) per team, every penny of which goes towards Rotary charities.

There are hundreds of charities and good causes that support people in and around Romsey. This is your chance to support them.

Charity revenue is always under strain, and it is essential that individuals, businesses, clubs and societies rise to the challenge and Get Involved in supporting causes that serve their local community. It is equally important for charities to get be able to raise awareness of various causes and showcase their work to the local community. To this end, the Relay Marathon acts as an opportunity for local charities to Get Involved with schools, businesses, sport clubs and families to spread the word about their work and also raise vital funds. At least 50% of the monies raised goes to charities and good causes serving the Romsey area.

If you are looking to fundraise, or have already fundraised for a charity then why not consider contacting them and seeing if collectively you could enter a team? Or, if you are a charity looking to showcase your work then contact us about having a stall on race day.
