The Relay Marathon was originally inspired as part of the Olympic Legacy. The Rotary Club of Romsey envisaged a simple event for a couple of hundred runners spending the best part of a Spring Sunday running, jogging or walking on a track in the beautiful setting of Broadlands Park. Since 2013 the event has grown from the original 32 teams to an entry of 175 teams in 2019. Runners have ranged in age from 8 to 80 years old. The event has now become a firm fixture in the Romsey calendar with several thousand spectators turning out to support the teams and enjoy the day.

With a BBQ, free children's activities on site including Face Painting and entertainers, the Marathon is not just a race or a fundraising exercise, but an event for the whole family.

History of the Relay Marathon

Encourage your friends, family, colleagues, business, charity or school to raise a team.
It doesn't matter at this stage if you are unsure of your final team, there is plenty of time for final details later on.

Register on the website, see above.
Just add the number of teams you're registering and the forms then appears.
Once completed click the relevant payment option.

Once registered we'll contact you with some more details about the event. If you entering more than 1 team we may ask for some more information.
You'll automatically be added to our mailing list with periodic details about the day.
All of our communication is by email and mobile phone to the team contact.

Turn up on Race Day with your Gazebos, flags and of course, the team. Only team contacts or their representative need to go to Registration to collect your baton.
The Race Begins at 10am prompt.
Each Team member will complete 2 circuits of a 1.3mile course before handing the baton over to their teammate.
The Race is electronically timed and Team Contacts will receive a text showing the time taken for each circuit and the overall time.

At the end of the race the winning team will be presented with the HSBC Trophy. The Children's Race will take place immediately afterwards.
By the end of June we'll ask you to let us know how much your team has raised. The Rotary Cup is presented shortly afterwards.

About the Day.
From humble beginnings in 2013, comes a family day out in 2020. Aside from the race we will be joined by children's entertainment, charity stalls, tea and coffee courtesy of the Girl Guides and a BBQ by the Scouts. Plus commentary by our very own Rotarian Comperes..
Teams choose which charities and good causes they wish to support. Each team decides how they will raise sponsorship, the Relay Marathon can assist by supplying branded sponsorship forms and providing advice on the use of online fundraising tools.
Declaration.
As a registered charity we have a responsibility to ensure good fundraising practice. By entering a team you are agreeing to take responsibility for your fundraising efforts. All we ask is for details of which causes you're supporting and how much you've raised for them.

Every penny that the teams raise goes to the charities and good causes they support. We can only achieve that from the generosity of our business partners and sponsors who pay for the event.
The Rotary Club of Romsey Test is part of a world wide organisation of men and women who use their time, skills and enthusiasm to give something back to the community whilst at the same time having fun. Romsey is fortunate in having two clubs, the Rotary Club of Romsey and the Rotary Club of Romsey Test which meets on a Wednesday evening.

Throughout the year we support hundreds of charities as well as organising community events such as the Mayors Picnic and Carols in the Market Place. Between the clubs we also hold annual events such as Golf Days, Walk the Test Way and the Relay Marathon. As well as supporting local good causes Rotary works internationally. Our two clubs are currently involved in several projects in West and Central Africa and globally, Rotary International has been a leader in the Polio Plus campaign to wipe polio from the face of the earth.

The Rotary Clubs’ ethos closely dovetails that of Barratt David Wilson Southampton and so many of our staff have taken the event to our hearts as we can further support our chosen local charities and the company will match fund all the monies raised by our staff.
So many good causes benefit from the Relay Marathon whilst participants can raise funds for charities of their choice and enjoying the day. A particular draw to the event for us is that we can actually help in the delivery of the event and not just by providing funding.
